About John and His Unique Approach

Welcome! I’m John B. Midgley, a licensed clinical social worker with over 2 decades of experience in the mental health field, and serving Middle Tennessee since 2009. My journey began as a crisis counselor at the Mental Health Cooperative, where I later became a supervisor and helped develop their child and youth crisis services. I’ve also worked at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and Children’s Hospital, where my efforts in transforming their systems earned me the prestigious “physician’s award”, despite not being a physician. More recently, I joined Community Health Systems, initially providing telehealth services before advancing to Program Manager, where I oversee behavioral health telehealth services nationwide.

My true passion, however, lies in working one-on-one with individuals. I specialize in helping people navigate life changes, with a particular focus on young adults, including college students working through transitions and seeking direction. My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Jungian therapy, all underpinned by a solutions-focused framework.

I believe in tailoring therapy to meet your unique needs. Together, we’ll explore your interests, uncover how you learn and engage best, and set personalized goals. My aim is to help you clarify what you want, understand the barriers in your way, and discover actionable steps to move forward with confidence.
