On May 10th, 1902, a small group of professional and amateur conjurors gathered in the back of Martinka’s magic shop in New York City. Their goal? To form an organization dedicated to elevating the art of magic and creating a community for magicians to share, grow, and protect their craft. That humble meeting became the spark that ignited the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.), the oldest magical society in the world.
Today, over a century later, that same mission lives on—and I’m deeply honored to be a part of it.
To walk in the footsteps of past members like Harry Houdini, who served as our National President and helped shape the legacy of magic not only in America but worldwide, is humbling beyond words. The S.A.M. has always stood for excellence, ethics, and unity. It’s a place where hobbyists, professionals, historians, and dreamers come together under the banner of wonder.
For me, being a part of the S.A.M. is not just about tricks or technique—it’s about tradition, mentorship, and the magic of human connection. It’s about preserving the mystery while encouraging innovation. It’s about standing with thousands of others who know that what we do—whether on stage, in the classroom, or at a bedside—is more than entertainment. It’s transformative.
As we celebrate this anniversary, I find myself reflecting on how much magic has changed over the years, and yet, how much it has stayed the same. The spark of wonder that brought magicians together in 1902 is the same spark that fuels us today. Whether you’re just picking up your first deck of cards or you’ve spent a lifetime on stage, there’s a place for you here.
To my fellow magicians and those who support this beautiful art: thank you. The S.A.M. is not just an organization—it’s a family. And I’m honored to be part of it.
Here’s to the next hundred years of wonder.
